Hello again, I know I haven't posted anything in several months. I've been busy with school. In English we had to write a narrative about one of our classmates and I wanted to share it with you. I also did some drawings to go along with it, those will be in here too. That's all for now.
See you later, Jenna out!
The Great Penny War of 2015
The penny, it all started with that stupid one cent coin. This single copper disk started what would be called The Great Penny War of 2015, though it was more of a heated mental argument than a war, and the knowledge of its existence is only held by two people. Here, is the story of the person whose mental landscape was the battleground of this “war”.
When Trevor went to pick up the penny, the last thing he expected was to end up in a light grey room, with his own gaze staring back at him from a few feet away. This wasn’t really a normal occurrence, but it wasn’t a new thing either, to be in this space with the ghost like version of himself.
This Trevor was an exact replica of the original, with dark brown curly hair reaching to the base of his next, and brown eyes that had soft hints of green, until you take in the fact that from his torso down was wisps of light red smoke. The staring contest lasted for a few more moments before the
silence was broken.
“Why am I here?” Trevor questioned with a annoyed sigh. These mental versions of himself, he had dubbed them Mind Voices (can and will be abbreviated as MVs) a long time ago, tended to get on his nerves as they argued with him about whether or not to do something with the most ridiculous reasons. Even though there was only one at the moment he was already getting miffed.
MV One scoffed “Oh please, you know why you are here.”
“I am pretty positive that I don’t” Trevor assured, arms crossed across his chest.
“Do you really think I’m going to let you pick up that penny!? I mean come on, it is obviously going to ruin the rest of our day!” The statement was blurted out with genuine surprise, as MV One created a holographic image of the penny sitting on the pavement in front of the school and a diagram of why this little copper disc would completely ruin Trevor’s day.
Trevor was about to retort on how that was not how him picking up a penny would turn out when they were interrupted by a second MV popping into existence a few feet away.
“Oh great,” He sighed under his breath “more of you, this is totally what I need right now.” the sarcasm and exasperation were quite clear to pick out from his voice, if you could hear it.
“We heard that you know, even if you didn’t say it out loud we still would have heard it, we are the same person in case you have forgotten that little fact.” MV Two sassed, floating over to them.
Trevor groaned, this MV would definitely get really annoying real fast. This one was known for his sass and witty remarks and the more you let him talk the meaner he would get. As you can tell, MV Two wasn’t one of Trevor’s favorites, not that he had a favorite. He hated most of them, or at least disliked them.
Everything freezes as a person walks into view.
“Hi there! I’m your narrator, and first off, no, the writer will not be describing what I look like because that would take too long and you can use your imagination.
Second, I will be popping in occasionally to share little details about the happenings of the “war”!” Making quotation marks in the air on the last word, they smile and give a small wave.
“Now as to why I’m here” with another wave of their hand a medium sized television like screen appears to their left. “Let me show you what this growing predicament looks like to the outside perspective.” They lean in and in a stage whisper say “you lot have the inside perspective in case you didn’t realize.” as an image comes into focus on the screen. It shows Trevor standing on the sidewalk in front of the school giving the offending penny a death glare and occasionally start to reach down to grab the little copper colored coin before yanking his hand back as he waged war against himself in his head.
“It’s seems like he’s having some difficulties there doesn’t it? Of course you have seen why already so why don’t I let you get back to the main plot. Hasta maƱana peeps.” With that the narrator saunters out, pulling the floating TV screen with them, and the scene starts moving again.
A raging ball of smoke and yells erupted from the other side of the room as another MV popped into existence from whatever depths of Trevor's mind they come from. There was a flash of movement as MV Three came rushing over and got up in Trevor’s face.
“If you pick up, no, if you even think about picking up that penny I will, believe me I will, rip your head off!!” MV Three snarled, jabbing Trevor in the chest, trying to add emphasis to the threat.
Trevor snickered “do you really think those empty threats are going to work on me? I mean come on how long have you been trying that, a couple months? A couple years?”
There was a huff from a few feet away and Trevor turned slightly to see MV Two smiling and giving him a thumbs up, proud of the come back he had shot at MV Three, while MV One was grumbling, starting to insist that MV Three was right. Suddenly there was a flash of movement as MV Two’s palm connected with the back of MV One’s head, promptly cutting off whatever he was about to say, and quickly pulling the hand back to his side. Wide eyed, MV One slowly turned to face MV Two who had the biggest grin splitting his face.
“W-What was that for?” He stuttered, face etched with complete and utter shock.
“You’re both wrong and I needed you to stop talking for once.” The smile on his face seemed to grow bigger with glee as MV One started to sputter.
A loud screech burst out from MV One and Three, “WHAT?!” They dove for MV Two “YOU ARE GONNA REGRET THAT!!”
“Really, cause I don’t think I will!!” MV Two shot back before getting tackled, the three sliding back a few feet.
Trevor rushed over, trying to pull them apart. “Would you just stop?! You’re giving me a headache!!” His pleas went unnoticed by the three raging entities, before getting pulled into the sphere of catastrophe.
A small plume of bright teal smoke erupted from just outside the small ball of argument and flying limbs. The smoke dissipated into a portal as a girl with twinkling blue eyes and blonde and purple/pink hair stuck her head in to get Trevor’s attention. Her multicolored hair fluffed out from under a dark red beanie and a pair of goggles resting on her forehead.
The scene pauses and the narrator steps into view.
"This is Jenna, she's one of Trevor’s friends and the only other person that knows about this." they gesture to the frozen cluster of arguing Trevors. "How she got in here I honestly don't know,” There is a muffled shout. “Oh I’m sorry, apparently she used maaaaagic” They wave their hands around and their voice is laced with sarcasm. “But that doesn’t matter, you need to get back to the story." They cartwheel out of view as the movement begins again.
“Hey what ya doing?” Jenna voiced in curiosity.
She was met with a roar of noise as 4 heads whipped around to face her and shouted out “GO AWAY, WE’RE TRYING TO PICK UP A PENNY!!!” with a mixture of “WE’RE TRYING TO GET THEM NOT TO PICK UP A PENNY!!” along with a few whines of distress coming from MV One who was being sat upon by MV Two.
“Okay okay, my gosh! You better hurry up then or you’re gonna be late to class!” Jenna yelled back at them before disappearing in a puff of smoke. There was a moment of deafening silence before chaos erupted once more. Trevor freed himself from the mess and stood towering over the three still on the floor.
Glaring down at them he stated, making them pause “You lot are giving me a headache and I don’t care what you say I picking up that stupid penny!”
They responded to his statement with a mix of “WHAT?! NO, YOU CAN’T!!” and “DO IT, DO IT, DOOO IT!!” Without looking back Trevor turned and slipped back into the “real world”, bent down, and picked up the penny.
“Now that that’s over with, time to get to class” The voices of the three still echoing in his mind.
