Chapter #
Unknown:
A Dragons
Descent
I swing my leg out, up, and back, connecting
my boot to the face of one of Calista’s lackeys, sending them flying back into
the wall with a harsh thud. Without hesitation, I unsheathe the sword hanging
from my side and in one fluid motion slice it across the chest of another
mindless minion, sinking the obsidian and silver blade deep within the enemy’s
body, leaving crimson blood tracks running down the blade.
I can hear the sounds of battle all around me
from Trevor’s slightly enraged growls to Calista sitting back, laughing, and
watching the chaos she’s caused to unfold.
Quickly shifting slightly to the side I feel
the familiar rush of heat shoot past my side as a burst of blood red flames
smack into an approaching attacker, engulfing them. Their shrieks mix into the
background noise as I silently thank Trevor and I move on to locate my next target. I set my sites on
Calista’s favorite assassin, Spencer, who is guarding said evil witch. I know
he sees me staring him down, and I know he’s plotting out how he’s going to
kill me, it’s not like we’re the best of buds considering he tried and almost
succeeded in killing me the last time we met. We keep our distance for the
moment though I’m not sure how long that’s going to last.
The lackeys are few and far between at this
point and it seems that the little that now remains are weary of coming any
closer to the three of us then roughly 5 yards. My violent purple gaze locks
with deep blood red shining out from under a black hood a couple feet to my
right. There is a rough gash on his upper left arm and a few small cuts
scattered on his chest and legs as well. On my left I can practically hear
Jackie debating whether or not to just collapse where she stands and take a
much needed break. We all needed a break; we’ve been going nonstop, fighting
constantly, for almost a week or more now.
The silence in the room was deafening as the
battle stilled into a stare down. The only sound that permeates the quiet is
the low occasional pop and crackle of white flames as they run like tiny fuse
lines over the cuts on Trevor’s arms, chest, and legs, healing the wounds and
leaving no traces afterwards.
I let out a low chuckle that soon rises into
a rough laugh and ultimately up to a series of high hysterical giggles. The
gazes of the frozen figures scattered around the room burned into my skin as I
sink to my knees, black tears running down my cheeks and dropping into the
ashes collected on the floor. I haven’t slept in a week and the lack sleep was
starting to get to me, my hysterical laughs were shouting it loud and clear to
my mind and to the occupants of the room.
Looking up I meet the ice daggers that are Calista’s
irises, grinning like the madman that I am at this present time, fangs pricking
at the bottom of my lip, and my eyes crazy and open wide like its nine in the
afternoon.
“Y-you know something funny?!” I
questioningly shout to that stupid snow queen between crazy laughs, wings open
at full span, and tail flicking around. “You’re not going to make it out of
this alive, Calista!!”
I tense up as I feel a hand rest between the
points where my wings join with my upper back. If I hadn’t seen Trevor race
over to me from the corner of my right eye he probably wouldn’t have made it
alive past a couple hours at most. Black and deep purple scales start to form
on my arms, chest, legs, and abdomen.
“I wouldn’t-“Jackie’s voice rings
out quietly, nervously, into the tension filled warehouse, in a futile attempt
to stop Trevor as he leans forward. I twitch as I feel warm breath slide over
my left ear and the upper portion of my neck. Somewhere in a hidden corner of
my mind the last sane part of me understands why Jackie was trying to stop
Trevor. It understood what Trevor was going to try and do and it knew that in
no way it would work. His attempt to drag me out of the madness before it got
to far was going to fail spectacularly and I had a feeling he knew that as
well. (But being the persistent idiot he is; he attempts any ways.)
“Jen…Come on you can pull out of
this.” The words barely make it out with the slow breath that glances against
my neck, nonexistent to everyone in the room but me and their owner. I twitch
with every word and breath that comes in contact with my senses. My insanity
filled purple/black gaze stays locked onto Calista as Trevor continues to
whisper useless little things into my ear. I whip my head to the side suddenly
starring Jackie down making her freeze, an ender pearl in her hand. I felt
Trevor jerk back a bit at my sudden movement but my attention stays on Jackie
as she silently whispers I’m sorry repeatedly before chucking the ender pearl
out a shattered window. I feel Trevor’s hand tens where it still rests between
the meeting point of my wings as Calista lets a command loose, the wiz of an
arrow echo’s throughout the space, and a sharp cry rings out from outside
before silence rains back down.
An unearthly growl erupts and
echo’s around the room, I know what that command had lead to, and I tensed up,
getting ready to strike. The whole room seemed to flinch as the growl gets
deeper. I feel the hand on my back hesitantly lift away and I stand, claws
curling and uncurling in silent building fury.
“Jenna?” Trevor’s voice seems
distant behind me as he tries one last time to calm me down.
Wisps’ of smoke unfurl from the
corner of my mouth as I let out a long hiss. My pupils thin out and stretch out
vertically. Taking a step forward the building shakes from my weight that was
coming into play very fast. The sound of bones cracking and snapping pierces
through some of the last remaining minions, making them bolt for any exit they
could get to. A roar erupts from the depths of my breaking and changing body.
The sound of Calista shrieking
“KILL HER!!” to the last of her lackeys and Trevor’s panicked shouts of
“JENNA!?!” where the last thing I heard as the world goes black.
